Broadcasting Industry Trends

Broadcasting

A big trend affecting the broadcasting industry is new technology, especially the Internet. As the web grows in popularity, more and more people turn to it to receive late breaking news reports rather than rely on the work of radio and television reporters. Competition has really heated up between these three information mediums, and as a result, employment has decreased in recent years for television and radio broadcasters. To stay competitive, broadcasters have to be faster and better at what they do than ever before.

Students entering broadcasting must be prepared for this extra-competitive market by mastering both oral and written communication and seizing all internship opportunities possible. The more experience one has, the more likely they are to be able to break into the industry with a paid employment.

Another major trend in broadcasting is the number of Spanish stations that are now available in the United States. Learning one or more additional languages can be a strong asset for broadcasters who want to tap into this new, global market.
