Degrees in Broadcasting

Broadcaster

The broadcasting industry spans television and radio and presents opportunities for those interested in working as news reporters and anchors, disc jockeys, producers, sportscasters, and more. While no degree, licensure, or certification is required to break into the broadcasting industry, a bachelor degree is often preferred by employers. Broadcasting programs across the country present students with short-term diploma programs, undergraduate, and graduate degrees specializing in radio and television production, journalism, broadcasting, and more.

At Boston University, bachelor and master of science degrees in broadcast journalism prepare students for all facets of television and radio news writing, production, and reporting.

Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts in Southfield, Michigan, offers diplomas in radio and television broadcasting. Students can choose either radio or television for a 32-week program and are immersed in courses that cover all aspects of radio and television production.

Broadcasting Institute of Maryland offers 600-hour programs that prepares students for careers in radio production, reporting, and announcing, as well as television reporting, direction, production, and videography.

Employers consider experience to be just as valuable as education, and look for prospective new hires with significant hands-on training and internship experience.
